Takayama Jinya

Takayama Jinya

This is the only place in Japan where the main buildings of the county government office still remain, as it was the place where the county and deputy officials governed during the Edo period. A morning market is also held in front of Jinya, and many shops are lined up and crowded.

Located in the precincts of Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, 11 real floats pulled during the Takayama Festival in the fall, which are replaced three times a year.

Kusakabe Folk Museum

Kusakabe Folk Museum

The Kusakabe family prospered as an official merchant of the bakufu during the Tenryo period. The house was destroyed by a fire in 1875, but was rebuilt in the Edo period architectural style with the skills of Hida masters, and was designated as a national important cultural property in 1966 as a private house of the Meiji period.

It is an open-air museum that reproduces the traditional houses and scenery of the Hida region. On the vast grounds, gassho-style private houses and old private homes have been relocated.

It is a mountain sightseeing road connecting Hirayutoge Pass in Takayama City to Tatamidaira, Mt. Norikura In order to protect the precious nature of Mt. Norikura, restrictions are in place on private cars, and buses, taxis, and bicycles are allowed to pass through the area.

Shinhotaka Ropeway

Shinhotaka Ropeway

It is the only double-decker ropeway in Japan, and visitors can easily experience the world above the clouds at an altitude of 2,156m.

Kamikochi

Kamikochi

Tents set up along the Miyagawa River display fresh vegetables, fruits, and other specialties in Hida. It is also a pleasure to have warm interactions with the local people. There are also many cafes and food stalls where you can walk and eat.

Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine

It is famous as a place where the annual festival of the Takayama Festival is held in the fall. There is the Takayama Float Exhibition Hall in the precincts, which has a permanent exhibition of the floats that are actually pulled during the autumn Takayama Festival.

It is a group of temples that were built and relocated during the Edo period when the castle town was developed by the feudal lord Kanamori Nagachika, and many of the temples are designated as prefectural or municipal cultural properties. The Enako River served as a moat surrounding the castle, and as many as 19 bridges are built along the river. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom and you can see the beautiful scenery of the four seasons.

It is an open-air museum that reproduces the traditional houses and scenery of the Hida region. In the vicinity, there are also spots such as the “Hida Takayama Crafts Experience Center” and “Hida Takayama Teddy Bear Eco Village,” where visitors can enjoy 10 or more different experience options such as making Sarubobo (human shaped dolls).
